ANIMAL CONTROL DEPARTMENT

Our primary duty is to protect the public from wild, exotic and domestic animals; to ensure all domestic animals are current on their rabies vaccinations; the enforcement of city ordinances and state laws, such as animals running at large and leash laws.

If you own a LIVE Trap, we will re-locate wildlife* or remove domestic animals that become a nuisance on your property (your trap is returned, within a few hours).

We do have a Trap waiting list – due to the amount of “feral” cats in the city – waiting time is at least a week and the trap must be placed back in circulation in two days.

*Please disengage traps on Friday afternoon, reset them on Monday night.

All dogs and cats in the city are required to be registered with Animal Control by the age of six months.  If your pet has a valid rabies certificate, registration is EASY – you don’t even need to leave home.

The Katy Animal Shelter is not an adoptable shelter.

We are required to hold unregistered/unclaimed pets for three days.  If you turn in your family pet to the shelter, you are required to sign a “waiver” releasing any claim/ownership of your pet.

Sadly, there are not enough loving homes for all the homeless pets out there.  We transfer many to adoptable shelters, however all shelters have limitations (especially housing large dogs).  If you have a loving home and are looking for a pet, please contact an adoptable shelter (e.g. SPCA or Citizens for Animal Protection, etc)
